An instant rebate, just for asking
“If present tendencies continue, the prediction is for…”. No, I can’t go there. It’s too early. The numbers are revolving like the balls in a lottery drum, and that’s not reassuring. Too much rides on the result.
Let’s go back to my day. At work, another of those ill-defined web conferences, wherein the stability of a videoconference is set aside and a firm tries to suck us into the maw of software that never works as planned. Yes, we could hear the other group, and their presentation slides were as clear as (could be expected). But, the video never went beyond the point where our local webcam appeared in one small tile in the corner. Senior administrators don’t understand the “why”. I don’t, but my expectations are lower than theirs.
Yesterday my cellphone was “on sale”. An attractive price, no web sales and the store was closed. What to do? Happily, the store policy of matching lower prices within a given period applied to themselves, and I received a rebate of $68 and pennies. If the price drops further (say, after the release of the next Apple wondertoy), I can return and request my due. Cool!
My vote went quickly; too quickly. I wanted to take some pictures, but there wasn’t time. I had the pleasant walk home across the local soccer pitch and down the bike path, and I was home at close to the regular time. Too easy. For son #3, I retrieved him from the local dojo, and we arrived with minutes to spare. Our civic responsibility, fulfilled.
And now I get to sit and worry, as the numbers roll around on the TV screen.
