And then (again) there was one
The shelf life of an idol is one year. Proven. After that, the stage spins one hundred and eighty degrees, and behind the curtain we see another idol. Don’t worry about false idols, because they’re all real. It’s just that the best before date creeps up and then, politely, you’re history.
The marathon is over, the best has won. Not really; Melinda had the lock on the talent section, but the public voted and about twenty minutes ago we were assured that the succession is in place. Jordin Sparks is on her way to the kind of career that only Kelly, Reuben, (Fantasia??), Carrie and Taylor have experienced. Well, Kelly and Carrie. The two guys are polite punctuation points and Fantasia is missing in action. Four out of five idols say that the process is awesome, blah blah blah…
TV America does love a show. Gwen, Smokey, Gladys, Tony, one of the Aerosmith guys, Kelly and Carrie (work cheap for old times sake). A really big show as Ed used to say, right here on our stage. The final twelve from this season, which did prove that there was talent galore along the way. Some special guests: Kevin now has a bushbaby in his honour, named for Simon.
There, now I’m doing it. They’re all on a first name basis with me. All friends, after coming in to strut their stuff week after week. Next thing, they’ll be poking me on Facebook. And just in case I get bored, the Canadian (pale ale) version will start in just a few days to get me through the summer, and then when the cold of winter is back we’ll get a whole new season.
In the manner of successful companies everywhere; Randy, Simon and Paula (still no meltdown) will be back along with Ryan. That’s the fun of it all. Even if the most talented didn’t quite get the gold ring, at least there’s a best before date inherent in the process
