Saving to buy an air freshener
Just in time for the long weekend (and the two week vacation that follows), the government has announced the end of funding for CAP sites and Katimavik. The former provided public Internet access across Canada, and the latter showed a generation the value of public service. Not any more. The savings from closing the CAP access should pay for something more important; say, a pine tree shaped air freshener for one of those new jets. And why allow people to work for (almost) free, when you’re “creating jobs for Canadians”. Unfair competition.
We have a new resident in our house. Not yet a family member, due to pronounced reticence, but already a 24 hour veteran of the way we do things. Having got up during the dark of night (to see how things were going), I’m determined to find out if some carefully applied beauty spots would make his dogginess easier to see.
He (for now) was the successful candidate for a position that I didn’t even know had opened (just like a recent workplace situation). The resume was without alarms (although all references have not been verified), and the first full day on the job has seen our front walk as the space of choice.
A pause here, to thank Natalie MacMaster for posting online the “launch party” for her latest CD. A full hour of music, with special guest JJ Chaisson from the Island, the five clips are available here. I wish I’d been there. Clear evidence that Nat’s a better fiddler than ever.
