Dodging a bullet

posted in humour, politics |

When I least expected it, the communion of language and music left me breathless…

Jake – “All this foolishness over a fiddle”.
Finn – “It’s a violin“.

(from the recent episode of Republic of Doyle)

Moving right along. Another federal budget, with another round of shocks to the national nervous system. I appear to have dodged a meaningless bullet – the pension age will not affect me. I’m finally old enough to understand. Given that the company pension will be reduced by the equivalent of whatever I receive from the federal system (right hand robs left hand), it doesn’t matter. Other than in principle..

In fact, after listening to the talking heads from the news report, the whole exercise (budget) is meaningless. The world is unfolding as it should. I knew that, as a disciple of Desiderata.  I missed the actual announcement section, so I don’t know whether the retail shoe industry or the cobblers’ guild came out ahead.

A friend asked me to check out and recommend hotels in the area. After careful study, I learned the following:

  • The hotel where my children work is bug free
  • Rooms are really expensive. Don’t hide the tents and sleeping gear just yet.
  • Prices rise in perfect lock step with “when someone might want to come and visit”. Something about seasonal rates.

I’m reading through the collected works of Faye Kellerman. Suddenly, the whole world of Judaic Law is before me, and I realize that I have nothing similar in my confessionality. Yes, there’s Benediction, and Good Friday, and genuflection protocol, but it’s not the same. Is it?

And in keeping with secular religion, the Habs will finish the season in the cellar, and the firings have begun.

In conclusion, here’s the seven year view of things from my driveway, as of this date.
