Green eggs and ham?

posted in food, music |

Given the auspicious date (a nod to my ancestors), I tried to celebrate with a traditional menu today. Unfortunately, we’re due for groceries, so the only option available would have been green eggs and ham. The work of Dr Seuss is important, especially if you raise progeny, but not particularly suited to a Celtic menu. I demurred.

Instead, the sign of cultural awareness was an hour of Internet radio, thanks to RTE. A documentary dealing with the two sides to Irish music: what the Irish consider traditional vs what the rest of the world considers. Try Horselips over U2. I remember finding an album by them, back in the 70’s, but it didn’t fit with my preconceived idea, so I reshelved the vinyl (we had an amazing collection at the university radio station). Life went on, and I learned about other genre. Today, a chance to revisit the work… I’d still reshelf.

TV is offering up some of the superhero films that I haven’t seen; stuff like Green Lantern and Green Hornet. Does colour suffice to make those two titles into fit material for this date? I’d much prefer something else from the works that are available. May have to dig out those Ballykissangel DVDs before the night is over. Or simply close my eyes and imagine far away fields. Better choice.

There’s a new iPad in the house. Now we’re stuck with the transferral of IP to another machine. While I wait for the job to be completed, the wifi security is off (no way to find out the new MAC address for the filtering). And MAC has nothing to do with Mac, thank you very much.
