Impatient parcel person

posted in humour |

I’ll admit it. Sometimes, I jump to conclusions. Panic without due cause. Get my tighties in a knot. Like, yesterday.

Perhaps it was, in part, the result of too much information. I knew that a particular package was “en route”, and that was enough. Checking the tracking bulletins. Probing the postal website. Wondering. And then, at home, in the dark (the sun goes down very early), I discovered that my mailbox contained nothing of consequence. A greeting card. An advertisement from a real estate firm (wait your turn). But no parcel. No parcel pickup slip.

Inside, I rechecked my sources: the parcel had been DELIVERED. At 11h11. I did the tour of the visible surfaces. Checked under those same surfaces. Returned to the postal pedestal (just in case). Checked behind the snow shovels (odder things have happened). Inside to make calls to the other members of the household, via Skype. No news is NOT good news.

And then I started calling corporately. The postal people are particular. As the recipient, you are not part of their equation. Only the sender can “send up” a flag. Fine. On to the seller, where I was, for lack of a better word, impressed.

The woman cared about my cause. She even called me (it’s a website trick). She helped me to calm down, start breathing normally. Reminded me that the postal people are really, really busy right now, and they could have scanned my package twice. Nothing to do with naughty or nice, and everything to do with too much to do. She asked me to wait a day.

And so I did. And it worked. Today, a key to open the magic vault. A parcel. All is well.
