Rules and wires

posted in humour |

Every time I receive a firmware update for one of my gadgets, I get a warm and cuddly feeling. Somewhere, someone cares enough to improve my lot. Two times today (two ebook readers). One now boasts a clock, because you can lose all track of time while “between the pages” of a good book. Or ebook. Same thing.

I also became involved in one of those detangle, dust and reroute missions. Let’s be frank. Behind every installation of electronic equipment, there is a rats’ nest. Even with the wireless stuff. I’ve got a pod that involves two printers, two different routers, a screen, a telephone (not exactly part of the pod, but involved), a cable modem and some other stuff that stays “out of sight, out of mind”. Until things are quiet, and suggestions comcerning the use of my down time…

I’ve learned that it’s for the best that I take care of it (the detangle, dust and reroute); otherwise something will stop working, and then I’ll have to get involved in any case. No difference, workplace or home. Rules are rules. Wires are wires. I did find an SD card reader that had disappeared some months ago, and the dust machine in the basement has been fed a “healthy meal”. Positive effort.

When in doubt about the wording of a form, see if it has been translated. Works for health insurance in Quebec. That pesky concept of “first name” and “last name”, as an example. Look for the differences. If you feel insecure, that’s why God created Google.
