Home heating with a data-processing angle

posted in computing, humour |

Just in case a place can have a birthday… Happy Birthday, PEI. You got your most recent name back in 1798, on this date. Befo e my time, sure. Still worth giving the world a head’s up.

We missed out on freezing rain today. That’s a good thing. My antenna would not be improved by ice damage (nor would my humour). I didn’t have to “skate” either to or from work. Maybe we can go another few years without such challenging weather. Or maybe I can pack my bags and move to a more temperate climate.

The survey question of the day (that leaves me stumped): Would I like to know how much the photos in a magazine have been retouched. They can do that?? I jest. Of course I want to know if that nifty photo proving intelligent life on another planet has been retouched. I want to know if a photo proving intelligent life on this planet… I’ll be nice.

An idea that has promise: Could we heat our homes with the excess heat generated by small server farms? I’ve tried using a number of ordinary machines, here, over the last couple of decades. The jury is still out. Putting a rack in the middle of the living room? Not sure. What if I trip, stub my toe, the plug falls out of the wall and Facebook goes offline? Do I want that kind of responsibility? Besides, who picks up the electricity bill? I already give enough money to support the vampires of the home appliance world. I’ll wait and see what kind of deal is offered.
