Small details in a larger tableau

posted in ham radio |

Some days are just chock-full of tiny details; like a can of mixed nuts. I like those days.

For example, today I learned that the US government is formally dropping charges that were pending against an old bearded fellow. No, not Santa Claus… Osama. Seems that the attorney general has realized that he won’t be brought to trial, due to circumstances beyond control. Is this what happens when a reality check takes place?

In the world of “purveyors of dreams”, Heathkit has decided to resume production of electronic kits. In particular, the company has decided to renew a long standing relationship with the ham radio community. I, for one, am pleased. I have fond memories of their catalogs (and their store in Montreal). This time around, I might have some money to chase dreams.

Disposing of six fluorescent tubes takes up a LOT of room in my garbage bin. If we can make it through the night without a drive-by smash and grab (or is it grab and smash), I’ll have managed getting rid of  years of “keep them until you find where you can send them for disposal”.

In Newfoundland, the bay just outside of Hampden is now filled with icebergs. I had to use Google Maps to find the community. Now I realize that we drove right by the turnoff, one afternoon, on the way to Deer Lake. Of course, we would have been there more than a month too early to see the sight, but it adds a sense of “so that’s where that is” to a news clip.
