Inspiring passion
I’m an evangelist… when it comes to telling others that they need more technology in their lives. Yes, gadgets do add spice to your life.
Doesn’t matter which hobby group, either. Cooking, photography, radio, music; extend the list in all directions. And then, find a new toy to play with. My current push – getting a colleague in the office to go deeper in debt, with the goal of owning a new DSLR. Come on, kid! Forget those investment seminars at the local bank and put your cash into something worthwhile. And then, after you’ve figured out which of the buttons “takes a picture”, get busy and shop for lenses. More, more, more.
I’ve done it. My toy collection (although FAR from complete) will permit hours of controlled playtime. The whole grow up, get a job meme is a preparation for adding to the list of insurable items in the home. OK, I don’t have a rider on the kitchen utensils, but the other objects of value merit a careful inventory. Just in case.
Although, if we should be hit by rising waters, or a rogue tornado (no Acts of God welcome, just the same), there would be a new opportunity to shop, compare, budget, order, enjoy. The sequence is important. Never buy and then shop, because your sorrow will be insupportable. Just so you know.
Be careful to specialize. No value in having a subset of Walmart in your basement. Match the articles to the hobbies, and if you need a new passion, head on down to the public library. There are sections for folks like you (and me).
