A marathon of historical content
Inevitable? Perhaps. Hard to leave the history of a king with nothing more than a chorus from the Herman And The Hermits. And so, tonight, I started with the series that has kept royal watchers busy for years. The Tudors.
This has nothing to do with my penance for skipping the latest wedding of a monarch-in-waiting. Rather, the hint that Krystin Pellerin will bring a certain degree of CanCon meant that it was time to get started. After all, there are 38 episodes “in the can”, and I’ve seen 1.5 (so far). Lots of bling. Lots and lots of bling. Enough to keep a jeweler on staff, full time, I bet. And the houses are far from shabby. For anyone planning to build their own palace, this is a good starting point.
Speaking of palaces, I had a distinct sense of Déjà vu. Or was it a memory set derived from annual visits to Woodleigh Replicas? Possible. I’ve not been to the Jolly Olde, so it seems like a reasonable explanation. The series (again, based on 1.5 episodes) requires a lot of people. Faceless, nameless people. Yes, I did my required courses in English history (Ontario was big on that sort of content, in my younger days), but I still don’t know if Wolsey began More, or Bolyn begat Buckingham. One more reason to persevere.
The budgets were good for the series, and at no point did I feel that there was scrimping… except for the Palace of Illusions, with the painted canvas walls. On purpose, you say? Tight week at the stone quarry, I repost.
