Stop with the tough act

posted in politics |

You may have heard that when you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Oversimplification, but our military has adopted the phrase. How else to explain the sudden road trip by a select group of the air force to Libya.

It’s not as if sending six jets to join in the latest Western vs Arab dogfight is going to be a deal changer. In the real world, a jet can fall almost as fast as it can fly, if someone happens to place a missile in the flight path. I just figure that we could have made a better choice.

We used to be a country that came in to insure peace after the hostilities had been reduced. Now, our government wants to show off the “Canadian Tough”. Is anyone really fooled? And before you go all “Support the troops” on me, let’s consider why we’re showing up in all the fightiest neighbourhoods. Did anyone vote for those new team jackets?

Change of topic here (fair warning). How do you teach people to be suspicious of email spam? Why would someone offer you several million dollars? Is your mailbox warning about being “out of space” likely to come from another corner of the world? Why would you order medications (that you don’t need) via the web?

We try (at work) to protect the users, but stuff slips through the mesh. Is there any way to make a secretary wiser? Is there a “street smart” that can be added to the start menu? I respond to questions, all the time. And then I worry about the questions that weren’t asked.
