In the shadow of the service pack
I got the news from another blog (the new word-of-mouth). The long awaited (by some) service pack for Windows 7 is finally available.
Earlier this year, the beta was offered, but I showed remarkable restraint and decided to wait until the real thing (nothing to do with soda pop) was posted and promoted. After all, the tiny print did mention having to reinstall, and we know how much fun that isn’t.
With multiple machines, multiple processor types, a mix of 32/64 bit systems, I would have been a great beta tester, but sometimes you can’t give and give and give. Sorry, developers. This evening, though, I was ready. Patience. Patience.
That’s exactly what I needed. The service pack takes hours to install. In the case of the netbook, things went wrong and I had to roll back. As for the other machines, they proudly wear the Service Pack 1 merit badge. Who knows what’s been fixed (reading documentation is so not my style).
And in my distracted state, I missed American Idol this evening. Will they continue without me, or have I driven the planet into a new orbit?
Did I mention that the Scotties are underway in Charlottetown? We’ve watched a bit (network television doesn’t get curling). It’s been a discussion point at work, and the scores have been posted without major delay. At this point, no team is undefeated, but I haven’t figured out who gets to advance to the playoff round. Never been able to understand tournament logic. The coming weekend should offer a few moments to “Hurry! Hard”.
