The race is over; let the race begin
Somehow, the parallel between a very recent leadership campaign and a marathon is startling. Too many runners on a bridge to nowhere. Lots of coverage at every corner, waiting for someone to trip or spill the refreshment table. All the runners filled with a desire to win and a protestation that they are there for the others, as team members.
Then, a weekend of press coverage, minute by minute on all available television networks. Who is staring at someone else? Who might be ready to support the other guy, for the good of all? Who has the best chance of winning the “real race”, not this one?
Because, now that the Natural Ruling Party has a new leader (in passing, that party has gone through a few in the last few years, so I guess change is good), the eyes of the “want to be elected” must turn to the next competition. Everyone else has politely held off dumping our current gang in Ottawa until this leadership campaign has been decided. Now, the race is over; let the race begin.
