More halftime fatigue

posted in media |

Some things are cumulative. Could be there was enough football yesterday, or maybe the coverage of the “Big Game” is more about the “Big Ego” than the “Big Play”. Anyhow, by halftime in the coverage, we haven’t even had the opening kickoff. More than three hours into the broadcast, we come to a pause to remember fallen servicemen in foreign lands, listen to Eva Avila idolize the anthem and watch the ceremonial coindrop – not even legal tender any more.

Finally, some football. I’ve even had time to pause the TV and go for groceries before a single down. That’s dedication. Anyhow, the game goes as forecast, with the poor little Larks getting taught some new tunes by the Lions. I, for one, stayed occupied with a Skype call, some searching for the houses of different relatives using Google Earth (I can’t tell if my uncle’s country place still has water in the pond; can’t wait for some better sat photos) and skipping a supper that involved corn chips and melted cheese.
Another big game out of the way. At least, next week will have some more genuine sport in the Vanier Cup, so I’ll be satiated for the current season. Good thing I am a very fair-weather sports watcher. Even the half-time show with Nelly Furtado was too “nice”, considering her performance several weeks ago on Saturday Night Live. Guess the cold Winnipeg air might have been a mitigating factor. Still, a show from Manitoba without Burton Cummings…
