Fortunately I’m poor
Rex never lets me down. Today, the question in focus is the eyeglazing topic of a tax correction aimed at income trusts. This has caused a very stressful condition in many people that can be summed up as “the government has done me wrong”. Not to be confused with “the government is wrong” or “I’m wrong about the government”. No need for confusion on any of these issues.
You see, there are people in this country that have so much money that they successfully hide some from the tax people. I am not part of that select group. Nor, in fact, are the majority of people. Fortunately I’m poor, and the stress just passed me by. We should refer to the group as that minority that have so much money.
This time around, the government noticed that some rather large and wealthy companies have decided to not pay taxes. Something about passing all the profits on to the shareholders, after they’ve finished with their projection of losses and R&D and realignment of the business plan and all the other eyeglazing things that companies have traditionally done to hide money from the tax people and their shareholders. The government doesn’t like when anybody decides to not pay taxes, especially when they advertise their intention in national newspapers, using a language understood only by the others in their minority that have money. A jargon of the rich, I guess.
Anyhow, the people with money are deeply offended. Pity they wouldn’t remove their noses from their navels for a few seconds, look around and perhaps notice all those little people that are cheering. Someone else to help push the heavy tax cart through the mud. Welcome in, friends and get your rich shoulders ready for the fun.
