Never too cool outside

posted in Wx |

This whole get the place ready for winter is taking far too long. I mean, it’s one thing after another. First the annual warm spell before the cool spell didn’t happen; is that what global warming is all about?

I mean, it’s a bright sunny Saturday, and I can still see the lawn. That means the snow is not here to stay. I still have time. The garden hose is outside. I don’t know why I need a garden hose when I don’t have a garden, but that just qualifies as a detail. I have a hose. Currently it’s a little stiff. Like a popsicle stiff. Getting it into the basement may be trickier than other years, as I don’t have a technique for removing the twenty metre icicle from inside. Details.

The lawn mower should be safe for the next few months underneath the deck. After all, nobody wants to push it around in the good old summer time, so this cooler weather should place it low on everybody’s list of toys to play with. The BBQ is safe, because after the first year shine wears off, nobody steals greasy black things from your yard. Besides, the chain with the frozen padlock will delay them until the killer dog kicks in. Did I mention how cold it is outside today?

The kids are older, so the usual detritus of water pistols, half-inflated soccer balls and other proofs of summer come and gone are nowhere to be seen. Good. Less junk for the basement.

There. I think we are ready for another year. All the shovels are conveniently outside in case the need arises. Winter, do your worst!
