That road is now closed
I once played with the idea of having someone make me a bumper sticker. Nothing too political, or inspirational. Instead, a tag that would brag of a completed event. Something akin to the fairy tale reputation, of having “Killed ten with one blow”. I wanted to let the world know that “I drove the road to Meat Cove!”
Too late for anyone else to do it. After heavy rains this weekend , the road is closed, indefinitely. Three bridges washed out, and landslides to really aggravate the situation. Henceforth, the handful of inhabitants will get their provisions by boat.
Here’s the coordinates, should you wonder where in the end of the world this stranded village might lie. 47°01′23″N 60°33′46″W. Wiki reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meat_Cove,_Nova_Scotia
The road closure doesn’t bode well for those seeking adventure. When the reconstruction is complete, this might be a safe little jaunt down a side road, rather than the scariest thing I have ever done in an automobile. Bar none. Not even the trip to the Magdalens in the trunk of a Valiant can match for knuckle-biting tension.
On to other challenges. CPAC is televising the Green Party convention. Their challenge: to get someone, anyone, elected to federal politics. I don’t understand the Canadian voter. Locally, we (not me) managed to elect a complete unknown to parliament, twice. A candidate with no public profile, or platform. Surely the Greens can better that performance.
On their behalf, an economist took the time to examine and rate the party platform. Gave them a B+, which is like two thumbs up. I’m not sure that the current “ruling” party would dare to allow the same sort of examination.
