Playing out another afternoon
It’s all back in the bag. Except for my sleeping bag; the little car that can has been reloaded, and tomorrow we’ll plan the next phase of vacation.
With an offer of an upgrade to First class in accommodations, I folded the tent and the mattress collection, did a purge of the food cooler and then distracted my travel partner with an invitation to join me for some ice cream and blueberries, over at the train station in Elmira. We were not alone; the parking area overflowed, and there was musical talent onstage. I wandered, and played with the camera and then got lost in the past: watching old video footage of trains here on the Island.
For supper, we decided to spoil ourselves with a visit to the Cape Light Restaurant in Cardigan. Great window seats in the main dining room, after the hostess convinced us that their dress code matched our attire, to a T.
My special, a pork dinner with all the fixings, would be a treat at home. Here, after weeks of campground coffee and a surfeit of seafood, I was willing to trade my firstborn child (not true, son; you’re safe for now). Ditto for the dessert; a portion of strawberry shortcake large enough for me and the rest of the campground.
I wanted to know about the choice of background music, since I would have chosen something identical in style if given the option. The waitress, too young to know the repertoire, brought the chef over to our table.
Turns out that he was showcasing the efforts of a friend, Darrell Keigan, from Cape Breton. CDs will be available, soon. The backup work was provided by JP Cormier, so we’re into the musical majors this time around.
And now, I’m at the local fire hall, parked between the pairs of big doors, to post this entry. Wifi freenet for the wifi freeloader…
