Cover the pan while you can
Out of the fat and into the fire; the reason why you really should have lids for frying pans. My quest was successful, and now I can look forward to a clean(er) stovetop.
We’ve been in and out of the Paderno world, several times this summer. Against my better judgement, I had purchased a pair of smaller pans without lids, since there were none on display, but realized that it might behoove me to ask the people in charge if there was an alternate location where I could get the tiny shields. Off to the causeway location, where the staff were overwhelmed with clients, I found that there were none on hand.
Back today, to the arena, where little had changed. The woman at the cash regarded me with disbelief when I told her that lids were rare. She called down to a third location, had the clerk do a deep search into the inventory database, flagged my desired item and then sent us down to the waterfront. Where, gleefully (but without song), I took possession of a pair of pot covers. For the curious: the difference between a “first” and a “second” comes down to two details: price and packaging. I now own one of each.
This being Thursday, we made the mandatory stop at the optometrist before sitting down to a fine plate of corned beef and boiled veggies at Papa Joes. Once again, thank you Joanne for your care and attention to my cause.
After another afternoon in “my” study carrel, we returned late enough to join the stargazers (Perseid presentation) and bunk down for a chilly night. The axiom is true: Gold Cup And Saucer time marks the end of summer.
