Slow progress across the continent

posted in food, technology |

Inquiring minds want to know, so I called Stan. Now, Stan and I are recent acquaintences; he had sent me a very polite email last week, so I felt at ease bringing up his (corporate) number in Skype and introducing myself. Yes, my parcel is still in transit, because Canada and Tennessee are a world apart.

He did provide me with a tracking number; now I know that the US Postal people received my parcel on a Tuesday morning and delivered it to Miami by the next Thursday evening. 900 miles; a mere 15 hours by fast car. The postal people don’t own fast cars. However, I think they have airplanes in Florida, so within the next week or so my parcel should arrive. I have a tracking number and I’ll be watching.

Another quiet evening here at the manor; the heirs are absent and we’re left to eating fresh steak and salad. Two sessions of BBQ in the last few days; I’ve already matched my output of the last two years with nary a burnt piece of flesh (mine or the food) to show. Have I finally “got” the technique. Was it as simple as abstention from bottled sauces?

This city has gone tramway crazy. For days now, the local newspapers have presented  stories on how other cities have laid rails and lived to enjoy the experience. As many of the living former mayors as will answer to rollcall have come out in favour of a project that will be nothing more than a return to the way it “used to be”. I,  for one,  look forward to the squeal of steel wheels on those slopes leading from the Lower to the Upper.
