Weather or not

posted in computing |

I live with a family that has become very dependent on our ‘net status; this evening a storm centred about three hundred kilometres to the west of here has made the connectivity very intermittent, and those around me are not reacting well to the ‘disconnect/queue to reconnect model’ used by the World of Warcraft servers.

Meanwhile, I used a quiet evening to burn a number of data CDs, getting my hard drive space back up and avoiding the near occasion of losing work because I didn’t bother to “back up”. Not so long ago, a single diskette was enough to carry a virtual life around; now, a bundle of blank CDs just whets the appetite for more.
