Cool (hot) volcano in Iceland

posted in environment |

It has come to my intention that the snow level picture I should have posted two days back didn’t make it here. Sorry… I couldn’t find any snow to photograph. All gone. Disappeared. Just a memory. What an uplifting thing to be able to say!

Finally made it to bed sometime after four a.m. Getting son #3 from the airport to here took almost as long as flying from the sunny south. In conclusion, he finds the weather too warm down there, and isn’t willing to give up life here in the great white North, no matter how many palm trees you offer. Oh yes, the souvenirs paid hommage to Che. Seems to be as iconic as Montreal Canadian sweaters in this part of the world.

The playoffs have begun, and after surveying family members, the bottom line is that nobody cares.  We enjoyed the hockey during the Olympics; we don’t want months of posturing designed to sell corporate season tickets. From here, I wish that Lord Stanley would reclaim his cup. Then, it could be used to reward amateur hockey, with amateur players and amateur ambitions. Won’t happen.

If ever there was a site that merited webcams (plural), it’s the volcano currently erupting in Iceland. Underneath a glacier, no less. The few minutes of shock and awe shown on the evening news made me wish I could jump on a plane and head on over to rubberneck. I mean, there might be a stench of sulphurous eggs, and a danger of flying rock bombs, but the show is spectacular.  Here’s a link to some quality pics.
