Let the blocks fall where they may
How time goes by when the blocks are dropping down! I watched a short interview with Alexey Pajitnov who wrote Tetris a short twenty-five years ago. The segue from Pacman to Tetris was effortless, because it’s easier to run out of room than to get eaten by a ghost. Machines have changed, over the years, but the game remains as popular as ever. His original platform: a Russian clone of the LSI-11 from the folks over at Digital. And yes, the LSI-11 is/ was really a PDP-11 with an improved chipset.
So where does a game like Tetris end up? On mobile devices, of course. While you wait to use your phone for its “intended” purpose, you can always arrange a few lines, with or without the music.
This is Grammy night. What I appreciate about the red carpet show is that musicians are rarely as polished (or fake) as their acting confreres. Oscar night is painful, whereas the Grammies Grammys attract people with particular personalities. I was called biased by my couchmate, but my opinion stands.
In the sporting world, the Scotties are underway, in Sault Ste-Marie. Many of the teams have changed, but the vocabulary remains a Canadian constant. Hurry! Hard! I’ll be watching to see if the team from Charlottetown can go all the way. Imagine! Next year, the show will be on the Island. Methinks that the tickets are probably already sold out.
Locally, we’re in Carnaval period. The coolest thing I’ve heard about so far is the site Revengeance Des Duchesses. Think of this as an alternative to the corporate whitewash we have learned to accept.
