First day of school again

posted in environment |

Son #2 had his first day of school today. Well, of his new level of school. He’s a newbie in CEGEP, with high school safely behind him. Still, he got the clean clothes and Mom to drive him to school, just like his other first day twelve years ago… my map confused the issue, just like…

We went to town to buy some coffee this morning. The bag of cheap blend bought for camping did not satisfy. At all. Deep six that stuff and go for the genuine article.

We had a leisurely continental breakfast with a bol for Madame and a regulier for Monsieur, before moving forward to the big grind at Tatum (my choice of coffee merchants in the big city.)

What I asked for: one kilo of Guatemala, ground for my espresso machine. What I received: a chance to explain that a kilo was NOT a pound; that it would require two bags to hold the quantity, that grinding it “less fine” would not make it finer in consistency; that I did not require the beans to be decaffeinated.

You see, it’s summer and the girl at the counter was cute and bilingual, but not particularly in tune with the product she was selling nor the measurement system in use for her whole lifetime. I like summer, but it will be nice when the real employees come back from vacation.
