Parents should not attempt to choose good movies (or so I have been informed)
I’ve been playing with my first personalized Sidebar Gadget, and I love the concept. My weather server (once I find the missing link) will generate an XML file containing a data set, and upload that file to a web server for public access. Then, a little “gadget” that someone developed will display my local temperature and windspeed sets in something approaching real time. It will. I believe.
Actually, the developer admits to a few flaws (they’re something like bugs, but the word is less prejudicial) in his code. I’ve been able to force a copy of the XML to upload, and the display is useful. But, nothing automatic, yet.
I turned the little netbook on this evening, after two weeks in hibernation (the computer, not me). It actually worked. Although the battery had drained down below 10%, the resume function was exactly what I believed it should be. Almost Mac-like. Windows Seven may be better than XP, just for that.
The parent class took a little abuse from the child class this evening, after we stopped at the local video club and brought home four movies. Turns out that our taste in modern cinema borders on the rediculous, rather than the sublime. None of our choices were “high scorers” on IMDB, although I replied that the child class tended to have low test scores (too). I know, weak ripost. Parents are morally flawed in the insult wars, because we actually love our children and appreciate the evolution of their judgemental ability.
Or maybe we were just tired. Maybe tomorrow we’ll have the perfect verbal retorts.
