The storm remained disorganized, in honour

posted in media, politics |

Could have been a very breezy day down in the Boston area, if “Danny” had grown into a hurricane instead of remaining disorganized. The Maritimes were on alert, having managed a near miss from another storm only one week ago. Still, when the Americans have to bury one of their own, even Mother Nature gives a free pass.

The funeral service for Edward Kennedy was available on eight different television channels locally, dubbed into French where budget allowed. Not many people get that saturation in coverage. Not many people remain in top elected positions for 47 years, either. Give a little, get a lot. The passing of a dynasty and all that stuff, although the number of grandchildren called to witness bodes well for the continuation of the saga.

Getting elected to the US Senate for almost half a century is worth saluting. Unlike our senators, who are appointed for no good reason other than allegiance to a particular “team”, a senator to the south has to woo the common man and woman, and has to remain in the public eye afterward. I’m rather gratified  that the good man from Massachusetts didn’t have to pass his final public moments in the eye of a hurricane.

Went grocery shopping as part of a team today, and although it’s fun to “do things together”, the job done gets done faster as a solo performer. I tend to play my anonymity role around town, whereas my spouse has a certain public persona. If you’re talkin’, you ain’t shoppin’.
