Old stones renewed
Today we put ourselves in overdrive. Lots to see, lots to do, miles to drive before we sleep, etc. Life with purpose.
Don’t look for anything serious here. We wanted to go to things that were all scheduled at the same time, so a little planning was necessary. Church to start the day, and the emergency exit plan was in play after someone had what used to be known as a malaise. Our duty, to avoid the ambulance as we headed on down the highway. Back to back service was a bit too much for our weakened constitutions, so an alternate route found us with coffee and a Brekwich in Souris before returning to the North Side.
The St. Margaret’s Pioneer Cemetery received more attention than usual, with an outdoor Mass (the one we missed), a church hall luncheon with pipers and a Gaelic Ceilidh in the church proper. Not so much Gaelic, but an interesting lesson in Highland history until the batteries on the recorder went to dead. After a short meet and greet with a fellow teacher I hadn’t seen since the very beginning of my career, we returned to the campground to recharge. We were shamed into attending a potluck supper; salads saved the day.
This evening marked our return to the Rock Barra Retreat. This evening, an awaited concert by October Browne, who came with a matched pair of Godin guitars in unmatched tunings. She has the turn for keeping her audience interested, both technically and vocally. Some percussive accompaniement from Andrew MacIsaac, and some lovely harmonies with Teresa Doyle and (later) Kele Redmond, before a round of farewells and see you agains.
