Minimalist edit

posted in media |

There is a steady stream of DVD rentals through the house. With two video stores in the neighbourhood, not unusual. Most of the time, very predictable fare, given that the advertisements on primetime TV must show the best parts all the time, every time. Can’t afford to have our viewing public surprised by the content.

But, one of the discs today stands out as an exception. The movie “Napoleon Dynamite” is so atypical, so unpredictable, so off the wall that I may be forced to rent it a second time, just to watch and see if what I think I remember actually was there.

Not too often that a movie leaves me with “Wow! What on earth was that?” as a reaction. I suggest this one, if only to show what no money, minimalist edit and cinematography and a bit of pure genius can bring to the silver screen (or TV screen if you wait for the DVD).
