The last dance, for some
For some, things end before they should. Unfortunately, disco hasn’t. The guest spots and song choices on Idol this week were painful to watch and hear. KC used to rock; now he shuffles. The bump is gone. This was also a big week for departures, with the cohort finally reduced to five. A handful, which means more than one song per week from the survivors. On the cut list, Lil and Anoop. No surprises there. From here on, the competition gets interesting, as there are only a month of idle surmising left for those of us who have nothing better to watch.
The papers have picked up on contract renewals, and the question about who will be in the judges’s dock next season is “in the news”. Will Paula go out in a flash or a pan? Will Simon decide to take his T-shirts to a better venue? Wait and see.
On the other channel, another dream ended (for this season). Even when you are a century old, you don’t get any respect on the rink. The Canadians were drubbed again this evening, meaning a four-straight loss and the end of the road to the cup. Given that the Habs last won the silver in 1993, it no longer qualifies as “recent memory”, but to lose on your birthday is doubly painful.
So, there you have it. Hockey is over, from the local point of view. Idol is down to a handful. Disco is not dead, but KC is reduced to a shuffle. The rest of the world ignored that Earth Day is underway, and we’ll all wake up tomorrow ready for summer.
