Requisite amount of progress 2

posted in computing |

Remember the old adage about the weather; how, if you don’t like it, just wait for a few minutes until it changes? Well, some of the OSS/GPL projects are much like that. I started out by “building” an Asterisk PBX box. I put the project aside, because sleep and work take precedence. By the time I got back on track, the project site had evolved, into something called TrixBox.

I downloaded the new ISO image, burned same and started all over again this evening. Reformat the drive (this time large enough), install the newer project software and …

Well, it’s still not really working, although the web based maintenance routines are bigger and better. Console access is now somewhere else, so I’ve been logging in with SSH. Reboots take a long time.

This project still has my interest, but it looks like the finish line is more akin to that of a marathon than a 100 metre dash in terms of distance to go before we sleep.
