Update the gear

posted in computing |

Today I decided to retire our old scanner, purchased back when parallel ports and Windows 95 were on the leading edge. The machine will descend to equipment purgatory. So, off to Bureau En Gros, and pennies short of two hundred dollars, we now have a Canon Canoscan 4200F with extended warranty.

The new scanner does a very acceptable OCR, and sometime this weekend I will find some old B&W negatives and test out my replacement for a traditional darkroom; if the results are “good enough” then another brick in the SLP website wall will have been laid.

I also rebuilt this blog, after ruining the config file. Happily, PHPMyAdmin allowed me to capture the data from the database file before starting over. If nothing else, this blog stuff forces me to learn new problem solving skills.
