Rising waters and higher risks
Ealt with ongoing flooding insult to the injury: BC version. Homeowners in areas of the province that have (nope, not over yet) heavy rainfall and floods have started to hear from their insurers. With enough water damage, the policy you paid for is nothing more than another wet piece of paper in your water-logged home.
I can say that I hope we never get that much rain. Probably won’t, but I have to say hope. We did everything we could to escape rising waters. Constructed uphill from the local lake. Put in a sump pump. Paid attention to the historical risks. Should be good, here. And I’m sure the people on the other coast took similar precautions. It’s just that the climate isn’t obedient to history, any more. Lay the blame where you may (although they will refute all your facts with idle chatter).
The COVID story continues to mutate. And the governments continue to take a “wait and see just how bad things get” approach to life. We have measures that we can apply. Interdiction of aircraft bringing in hundreds of passengers with unknown vaccination status is a biggie. Shutting down inter-regional travel is another. Yes, I’d drop my holiday travel plans like a hot potato, in the face of evidence that this is going to devolve. Unfortunately, I’m not the one in charge of the “let’s go visit family” plans. I understand how Skype and Zoom work. And getting/giving hugs is not the only measure of how much I love my family. December might be longer than usual, in terms of personal stress levels.
