Shorten my wish list, if that’s possible

posted in music |

Those endless Black Friday ads, which should end after this week, remind me that there are many things I could have in my home that are impractical but novel. Things I don’t actually own, yet. I’m going to focus on a particular range of items that might interest me.

Let’s go with the category of “Musical Instruments”. So many choices. I don’t want a kalimba, despite the easy ability to transport one in my coat pocket. I want something larger. Go big or go home, right?

I could go for a tuba. It’s been on the personal wish list for better than five decades, so it should get a seat on the wish bus. Nothing small. I want one of those CC sized models with six valves. Yes, I realize I don’t have enough fingers, but neither does anyone else.

How about a marimba? Something long and wide (and heavy; don’t ignore the heavy). I’m not in the mood for kettle drums; built whatever muscle mass I used to have, lugging four of them up the back stairs in high school, and then back down again. I repeated that offense while in university. Or a “bull fiddle”? Lighter than it looks (because of all the air inside. Maybe a harp (strings, not mouth organ).

I did check the prices, in the used bazaars online. I can afford one of the above, although one timpani (timpanum) is rather useless. Trying to narrow my wish list here. No accordions. No uilleann pipes. No grand piano, again with wheels and a need for a freight elevator in the home. Good thing that my tastes are simple. All of these toys can be sourced, right here in the country.
