Those one-try stickers are crazy

posted in economy |

Who knew? Turns out that a lifetime of driving experience might not be enough, if you have to take a test in a different country. To be fair, I almost passed. And my wrong answers were dealing with rules of the place, rather than an overview of my talent. A confession: I had no idea how many days I had to notify the constabulary, should I be involved in a minor traffic accident. Next time, I’ll read the manual through (at least one time) before assuming that my skill set is a transferable one.

In a related way, I applied the new “ tax sticker” to our vehicle plate. Sticky business, and  you get one try before botching things. What concerns me is that the number of tries is so limited. Yes, I did it right, but I was giving my full attention to the job (as one should, when tackling anything related to an automobile).

Facebook is now Meta”. What does that even mean? Is it a heads-up about an impending logo being unveiled, or are there real changes (corporate and behavioral) happening? Will I need to learn new skills to navigate the updates from friends, family and strangers? Is Mark Z. now worth more or less than yesterday? Meta.

Today’s financial mystery: when a forecast predicts higher interest rates and lower inflation, will I ever be able to afford a package of bacon? I get frightened by such things; I do have an economist I can call, if only to check on his family. That’s my next move. Call, and then warm up the frying pan.
