Dog buddies and (maybe) molluscs

posted in environment |

As I hang with two hounds for the day, I stopped to remember. Sixty years back, when we had our own pair of black spaniels. Two dogs that like one another makes having them together into a relaxed game. Which one will react to, say, a car in the lane. Or… no, that’s about the only way to interrupt the naps.

I’ve found another set of hobo videos on YT. Or as this one self-describes, a steel surfer. Takes guts, and high tolerances for noise. I don’t know if earplugs are considered as safe, when you need to be ready to react to sudden changes in your transport system.

Did I mention that the Olympics are underway? Not that I’m paying much attention, except for the occasional breaks to tell me about a medal win. As if that was all that mattered. I did watch a neat spin and fall by someone on the high bar. And some soccer goals; those are as rare in high level play as in normal times. Any sport where 1-1 seems to be a big day doesn’t cut it in spectator interest.

I got up fairly early, for a change. Enough so that the dew hadn’t yet burned off the deck furniture. And I still needed sunglasses. Right now, the other half of the household is off digging clams (first time, ever). If we suddenly find ourselves with a bucket full, I’ll have to do some quick study on preparation; I favour clams that are deep fried and served with tartar sauce, in a restaurant.
