So fast, I feel furious
Proof that having the official permits in hand not being sufficient? Look no further than the region of Gatineau, QC. Someone (with a really expensive home) has learned that their house is too close to the street. How close? That doesn’t matter. What does is that the neighbours were out of sorts. It was their neighbourhood, after all. And following a long meander through the court system, the verdict has been rendered. Since the street won’t move, the house must. A demolition order has been give. I’ll let you learn the official version here.
Bylaws are often more important than any common sense. I went through something in my last city, where the curb was located across my driveway. Built on a curve, etc. We waited the necessary number of years, and moved away. In a photo from this decade, you can see that it (the curb) lies in wait for an unwary wheel.
It did protect our refuse bins from attack, once a week.
In China, they have announced a new faster train. 600 kph of faster. Here in Canada, with lots of open space, we tend to accept something with 10% of that “whoosh”. I’d adapt to the fields and forests going by faster. Really. I’d also adapt to a train that went nearby… we haven’t had that spirit here since 1969. No bus, no train, rarely a plane. If ever we lose the ability to drive, life will be restricted to the number of miles per day, on foot. I know; this is a metric nation. Except for life in the country.
