Return AND Investment
The post office delivered the first half of our income tax refunds today. Always a welcome letter, this return of some of my money, overpaid and held for almost a calendar year without any requirement to pay interest. But, the filing my return by computer has taken the time required down to just over a week, and some saving must have been generated for us all given that no warm wage-earning body was required to key the data into the computer (I don’t count, in this imaginary calculation).
The form and cheque, in a familiar blue colour with more than one image of the flag prominently displayed, did congratulate me for investing in the growth of our society. Guess that the bean-counters place a higher value on the praise than on the interest…
