No familiar faces around
The last few days have had me wondering (quietly) about where have all the familiar faces gone. You’d expect that after five years in a local high school, there’d be a minimum of people that I’d know. After all, I still remember the names and related features (at least “the way they were”). But, other than family members, I’ve not seen a one.
I’m sure it has something to do with the proximity to a major metropolis. Given the opportunity, any average kid is going to migrate to the centre of the known universe. After all, I did, albeit in a different galaxy. Around here, you jump on a bus and two hours later there are millions of new faces to peruse. Literally.
As we’ve driven around, going from here to there, the houses of old friends are still standing, but something tells me that a knock at a door wouldn’t lead to a class reunion. Maybe that’s the way things are meant to be. I left, and I wasn’t that different from my companions. We all had the urge to see the world.
So here’s the catch; the people from my youth haven’t shown up on any of the social websites I frequent. Does this mean that they’ve changed their names, or foregone the whole Web 2.0 experience? Why doesn’t Google reel in the traces? What about telephone listings? Where are you, everybody? Let’s get together and recall the “good old days”.
Or maybe not. In a week or so I’ll be back to my own evolved experience, and something about reliving my life isn’t all that appealing.
