Preparing for the after shocks
How long has it been since I last went to the city? Without counting days, let’s go with construction projects.
The apartment block, next to my cousin’s place? Fixed. About to re-welcome residents. The bridge construction? Pretty much done. The new library? Getting set to shelf the books. I’ve seen none of this, in progress. It’s been a long time.
Around here, ads for cottages are coming up on my timeline. Not because I’ve been shopping (actually, I have no idea about the cause/effect on that one). Prices are high; almost as if the sellers are convinced that when (note the optimism in that one word), the buyers will be legion and price-blind. I ran one of the ads by one of my kids, and he had clarity: the price is crazy!
I then checked in with another relative. He’s in the process of packing to move to a newer house. Did all the required stuff while others were simply keeping an eye on the vaccination lines. He pointed out that strategies are evolving. His parents might sell their home, now worth a small fortune, and purchase a couple of “sea cans” (the local term for containers). With the carpentry skills found around their family, and the avoidance of any need to build “from scratch”, it might be a plan. Not for me, but then again, I’m not planning to join the extended family.
The after shocks when the quarantine is ended will be awesome to see. Just forecasting. We’ve done safe. Now, let’s do something different. For lack of a better word, crazy.
