Low tech countermeasures
Looking out across the fields to the water, I missed the obvious. There will be sea ice, sooner or later; I thought I had noticed some this afternoon. Meanwhile, the other coast was in view (apparently). In a straight line, just over sixty kilometers (to a convenient lighthouse). Why that might be important is that we only see the other coast at special times, like just before a storm. Have to be more observant.
Actually, I can quantify the current conditions: the air pressure was up around 1025 hPa all afternoon. High, in general terms. And the temperature was just below freezing (normal for February). We’re waiting on some weather, bringing freezing rain for the next couple of days. No big storm, but forecasting is an inaccurate affair. I’m just noting the conditions, so that I can draw conclusions later.
And now for the news. In Egypt, they’ve uncovered what might be one of the earliest breweries. Fifty centuries, if you’re counting. You mean there was beer before “50”, by Labatts? Who knew? I’d send the story to son #2, but he seems to know all this trivia already. Maybe from a book?
On TV, we’re down the rabbit hole of an old series: Monk. Maybe you remember the show, if you’re old enough. Give me a few more episodes and I’ll have a lock on OCD.
Amazon not only keeps an eye on our parcels. They’re watching their drivers. Got to get ahead of unsafe driving, etc. However, the tool is a smartphone app, and the drivers have figured out a way to get back control. You see, if you take your phone, wrap it in a sweater and then stuff the bundle into a convenient storage compartment (think “glove box”), the watching stops.
