Working through my prep list
Another bit of winter prep completed. My parka is now clean. Freshly laundered, as it was. The tag inside the coat explained the details: temperature, detergent choice, closing the zippers, drying. And although I don’t claim great background in coatwashing, I’m able to follow instructions. So, I did. Imagine my having that done, before the sudden onset of cold. The purchase I made (nine long years ago) will get me through another season or two.
To be fair, I don’t spend as much time waiting for city bus schedules, so my coat gets less air time. Like my big boots. All that remains is the purchase of a new tuque.
On other fronts, I had a reminder that in the country, someone is always watching. Sometimes, it is me. The man that verifies the properties down the hill stopped in. The next door neighbour (that I have yet to meet) had seen someone drive down the long lane, two days running. I had also seen “the rig”, so I could tag the colour and the brand.
In the city, nobody sees anything. Here, we are polar opposites. Now, I’m not going to get all paranoid; people are seeking properties for sale, and roads to the shore are the best place to spot badly placed realtor signage. But it serves as a reminder: no going down a lane just because you are curious.
If I go, I’ll take my dog and my best birder lens. Sow confusion as I go. Or maybe I just won’t bother. That’s why we have Google maps… to satisfy idle curiosity.
