Eco-pool maintenance
Now that the ice is gone, the time for “starting” the pool is upon us. Let’s face it, we have removed most of the toxic waste dumps from our home lives, but in a climate where summer is measured in terms of weeks instead of months, the backyard swimming pool is a chosen evil. Note I did not say necessary.
Given the opportunity, the pool will turn into an algae farm within a matter of hours if the water is not kept in a state of chemical stress. pH my *ss! Soylent green. If you can see through to the bottom, things are already ballpark. Skimming, filtering, shocking, balancing, degunking. Living better through the miracles of modern chemistry.
In these times of high load on the electrical grid, Hydro Quebec has offered to pay part of the load of installing a timer; unload the load, so to speak. They have put in place a program that refunds almost one third of the purchase price, so I’ve joined their little party and the pool now is timed to be quiet during quiet time. Dusk to dawn. I’m doing my bit to be a little more “green” in preventing the pool from going “green”. Now to reduce my economic investment in chlorine powder…
