A picnic!

posted in economy |

I don’t actually follow the solar calendar. But, today is the solstice, and that’s probably why I found myself sitting in the shadow of a small lighthouse, looking out over the harbor and enjoying a take-away supper. A picnic, if you will. The local restaurants (diminishing in number) aren’t doing table service just yet, and so our menu choices were ordered by phone and delivered in a brown bag out the back door. How do you rate that service on Yelp, I wonder?

During our stop for fuel, on the homeward leg of our adventure, we ended up chatting with a local fisher, who brought us up to date on the logistics of lobstering in a pandemic. It’s a tradeoff. Low prices, high demand, high harvest rates equal out; people are still making money, with only days remaining in this season. For anyone interested in getting in on the wealth stream, realize that the price for a “fleet” with license is running over a million dollars.

Four days in a row, my little black box that streams Internet radio has worked really well. I haven’t lost my data link, nor have I had to recook the software image. Could the people at Volumio have found the right combination? I hope so.

The dog got his spring combing, today. We have a strange brush that removes all the underlayer of his fur, without any yelp rating (not related to the above). I’d like to believe that the handfuls of fur will be used by local wildlife: nests, burrows, whatever. This qualifies as a renewable resource, for as long as the dog remains in the house.
