We serve as the local critter kitchen

posted in environment, food |

As I watch through the living room window, she who normally watches the birds is busy; trying to feed a chipmunk from a small handful of almonds. It’s not going well. I guess the striped marauder has no experience with almonds, so why try something new. In a sense, I’m glad, because the price of roasted almonds far exceeds the fun of watching a rodent stuff the cheeks and scurry off to wherever nuts and seeds are stored.

I’m sure that the critters locally have got us figured as “easy marks”. After all, they had provisions before we arrived on scene. This is just bounty. At least we haven’t fallen for the wiles of the foxes, because they are larger and we would have to rethink the dog’s access to biscuits. He won’t say anything, but I know that it worries him. Why else would he bark whenever one comes within the limits of the yard?

This afternoon, I received an order of two utility boxes. On time and in great shape (it’s hard to damage something so rigid). I take this as evidence that the unexplained delays in shipping from beyond the bridge are lessening. Now to figure out the features I want in my battery box.

On TV, one of those home makeover videos; the only interesting detail was that we could watch one of the nephews in his work environment, as he assisted in the renos to a cottage located in the Wasaga Beach area. One of the most overpowering uses I have ever seen of orange (paint, carpets, furniture).
