Return of the hummingbirds
It used to be simple. You did the checklist: schools closed, stores closed. Easy to tell anyone who asked that, yes, this was a holiday. Now, not so clear. Actually, this is a long weekend, but it could be any day of any week, during the last few months.
At least the hummingbirds are back. Late, but here. I can now add “check the fake nectar dispenser” to my routine. They’re not demanding, unless you sit too close to the sweet spot, and then you realize that the species has a very sharp beak, and some mad flying skills. Any collision will be fully on purpose.
This was also a “crush the cardboard” afternoon. I hesitate to discard the original packing for various purchases, and if they’re stored out of sight, weeks can turn into years. Always good to catch up on the abundance. I now have several containers filled with flattened containers, out at the curb. If all goes well, we won’t have a deluge or a tempest before tomorrow morning.
In the news, a story (out of NB) mentioning the hardship placed on QC tourists, now that the road through to the Magdalen ferry is blocked. Tourist season is about to begin. Since the journalist doesn’t have an email address (highly unlikely, but who knows) and doesn’t accept DM via Twitter, I’m trying the @ option. Tweet my comment, with his name embedded. You see, there are other ways to get from QC to the Islands. Besides airplanes. The firm with the ferry franchise has a summer route (for tourists) that leaves Montreal and does a quick “aller-retour”. Costly, but not impossible, for anyone that absolutely needs to improve their big city tan by a sejour on an archipelago.
