Mid-way through a distro swap

posted in computing, ham radio |

For a few minutes, life almost got exciting here. A truck, going down the hill, with a license plate that seemed “foreign”. Could this be the tip of the tourist invasion. We sent our best scout down there, and about ten minutes later the facts were made clear. No need to call out the home guard, or find a supply of quarantine potatoes. This was just the annual visit by the flyspray team. Off to check for standing water that might host mosquitoes, come summer. Stand down the alert!

I’m trying to solve a hardware/software puzzle that involves my latest SDR and Linux. Now, about a week back, I reformatted an older computer and installed the most recent version of Mint (my favourite flavour). Unfortunately, my attempts to get a working copy of CubicSDR were far from stellar. So, back to reading.

A suggestion, from a user group, was that I download another distro, Skywave Linux, (which I did). This time around, there is a selection of software suited to SDR and precompiled. Swapping a distro is child’s play, and while things churned, I enjoyed my first meal spag in ages.

Alas, my problems did not evolve, and now I’ll have to watch some videos from other, more successful people. Maybe actually seeing the setup working will be enough to move me forward. I should note that the hardware works well in Win7, but that’s not the direction I want to take. Tomorrow, when the TV sound space can be interrupted, I’ll get back at it. After I recharge another CO2 cylinder. The two acts are unrelated.
