Stay home. Period.

posted in health, politics |

We have uneven leadership, it seems. While many of us (the wise ones, just so you know) are content to isolate and avoid painful death, there are certain people with access to the bully pulpit who now believe we “need to get back to work”. The economy, apparently.

As if the economy wasn’t an artificial construct, with the rules coming from the top and trickling down. Actually, the only part of the economy that does, but I digress. Oh, yes. Getting things open. Right now, even the school system in on offer. I mean, if we can’t infect a generation with our guidance, what will be the point of history. I’m unable to make a link between business and that elementary classroom, but certain premiers and presidents are ready to do just that.

Locally, we’ve learned that “the ferries will be running in a few weeks”. Why? We’re not ready for the tourists of this world. We’re certainly not ready for the asymptomatics among them. Right now, we have a big bridge with sentries. Even trying  to promise that the ferries will be handled in a similar manner leaves me unwilling to do a suspension of disbelief (hypnotism under a different chapter heading).

Let’s get through the weekend, shall we. No miraculous church gatherings. No hunt for Easter chocolate, although if you can spare a few bars of dark/bitter I’m open to receive. Most of all, don’t give up the fight. We don’t have a vaccine. We don’t have any firm studies into immunity. Stay home. Here, let me hashtag it: #stayhome. Now, are we good to go?
