Ignore those measures

posted in health |

It’s a learning process, apparently: this afternoon, the provincial government gave notice that the retail recreational drug business would be shuttered… tomorrow afternoon. Right now, and I assume through tomorrow morning, all those who want to get their “provisions” in place are out shopping. Huddled masses, etc. Of course, the other notice from the government is that we should practice social distancing. Guess which notice has been prioritized? We have been told that there will be new rules in place, tomorrow. I assume this will cover the final hour of business, as the original notice had a time, place and conclusion. Why bother trying to figure this out?

In another attempt to protect the health of frontline workers, we have learned that CBC will cease local programming. In lieu, access to a national network, with occasional feed from the outlying regions. Here’s the thing. Locally, our CBC evening news has a 70% market share. The initiative from (I assume Toronto) has not been well received. Even the premier has joined in the noise. Again, tomorrow will present another side to the mirror of life.

People don’t get it, obviously. I did come across one editorial, which pointed out the crucial difference between the known and the now. The flu? We’ve all had it, and our bodies do have a certain level of immunity. Not enough to keep us happy and well, but… the COVID-19 virus is new and exciting. We have NO natural immunity, and we don’t know how this is going to evolve. In other words, if we don’t try to get control, this might be a very long summer. Followed by fall. And then winter. Should we worry? I think so.
