Measured persistence

posted in education |

I have found a very straightforward approach to my life: I do things by the numbers. Unlike when I was getting started, and doing something that involved counting the years (like school), I now count the days. The figures feel larger, and it reminds me to keep at it. You know, because I will eventually run out of days to count. Here, let me show you.

In the morning, I follow an online language course, where progress is mapped to consecutive days of meeting a predetermined goal. As of today, I have managed to reach 1129, with tomorrow already intended. Similarly, this blog is now up to somewhere past the 5,146 day marker. I have managed to keep putting drops in my eyes according to a protocol, and although the count is a bit blurry, my claim will have to be 5,200 plus. Numbers that mean just one thing; I am persistent.

On a shorter term, I did clear off the walkway, this morning. As a result, we have a snowfall warning for tonight, and a freezing rain warning for tomorrow. In other words, my effort was in vain. I didn’t push back against the weather, at all. My only hope is that the day after tomorrow  I can undo the most recent insult to my injuries.

Do you remember how we learned that we’ll be getting more windmills? Even though the region doesn’t want to host any more wavy wonders, the government at the provincial level has another plan. Well, our local council just granted a permit to someone (I don’t know who, or where, yet) to build a two bedroom house for year round habitation. A real home, in other words. And the house site is inside the intended windmill area, which throws some uncertainty into the “master plan”. I hope.
